Gordon Lee - piano

Gordon Lee has performed all over the world: in 1986, 1989, 1991 and 1995 at the Mt Hood Festival of Jazz, the Playboy Jazz Festival at the Hollywood Bowl in 1989, the JFK Center for the Performing Arts in Washington DC in 1992; the Smithsonian Institute for Native America Art in New York City in 1995; in Paris, France, Germany and Vienna, Austria in 1991, Tokyo, Japan and Lima Peru in 1993 and Istanbul, Turkey in 1994. He performed with the Brooklyn Philharmoni under the direction of David Amram in 1993 and the Oregon Festival Symphony under Lajos Balogh in 1996 and the Oregon Symphony under Norman Leyden in 2003 and Bill Conti in 2004.

Lee has recorded his own groups during these times and been hired as a recording artist as a sideman on others.  He has been a participant in the Art-in-the-Schools program since 1989. Arts in the Schools is a collaborative project between the NEW, OAC and the Metropolitan Arts Commission where Gordon provides master classes, clinics and residencies. He is the Executive Director of the Mel Brown WOU jazz workshop and won the 2006 Provost Award for Excellence in Teaching.

Renato Caranto - tenor sax

Renato can bop hard, lay out a swinging groove, and play a ballad so sweet it will send shivers up your spine.

Renato is a firm fixture in the music community throughout the Pacific Northwest and beyond. He has recorded and/or performed with many notable local greats (Mel Brown, Tom Grant, Michael Allen Harrison, David Ornette Cherry, Dan Balmer, Alan Jones, Sweet Baby James, Louis Pain, Ron Steen) as well as many nationally known talents (Esperanza Spalding, Bernard Purdie, Arturo Sandoval, Curtis Fuller, Javon Jackson, James Carter, Clarence Clemons, the Temptations, the Four Tops, Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown, Grant Green, Rob Paparozzi of Blood, Sweat & Tears, Bruce Conte and Mic Gillette of Tower of Power, Teddy Edwards, horn section for Harry Connick, Jr,). He has performed in all of the major festivals in the area and was the featured artist and poster-musician for the Cathedral Park Jazz Festival in 2006.

Ed Bennett - bass

Ed Bennett has long been considered one of the West Coast's premiere string bass players. Currently living in Portland, Oregon since 1990, Ed's work has taken him virtually everywhere in the world. He has worked with, toured internationally, or recorded with many legendary jazz figures, including: Dizzy Gillespie, Curtis Fuller, Terell Stafford, Claudio Roditi, Jeremy Pelt, Joe Henderson, Sonny Stitt, Benny Golson, Frank Morgan, Richie Cole, Pete Christlieb, Bud Shank, Charles McPherson, Hadley Caliman, Bobby Watson, Pete Jolly, Don Abney, Joe Albany, James Williams, Mike Wofford, Pete Malinverni, Bill Mays, Dick Berk, Larance Marable, Joey Baron, Chuck Redd, Carmen McRae, Bill Henderson, Jimmy Witherspoon, Anita O'Day, Ernistine Anderson, Marlena Shaw, Nancy King, Karrin Allyson, Mary Stallings, Dee Daniels, The Modernaires, Toshiko Akiyoshi/Lew Tabakin Big Band and the Gerald Wilson Orchestra.

Chris Brown - drums

Christopher currently lives in Portland, OR where he not only continues to perform as well as teach privately, but is also a saxophonist and drummer with the 234th Army Band.

Aside from Christopher’s first big musical break coming in the form of a month long European tour with Roy Hargrove’s Quintet in the summer of 2006, his most recent accomplishments have come in the form of having been offered both an adjunct Professor of Jazz Theory (Fall 2007) and History (2009-2011) position at Rutgers University, as well as being presented with the 2007 Artist of the Year award (following Esperanza Spaulding) through Portland State University’s Leroy Vinnegar Jazz Institute. Also, during the same year, Christopher was cast in the big budget film American Gangster, starring Denzel Washington and Russell Crowe. And lastly, Christopher has shown some further interest in the area of modeling/acting, with commercials such as Master Card, and TV shows such as the History Channel and the Maury Povich show.
